Ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran kicked off the DCU, there’s been talk about who would be Batman alongside David Corenswet’s Superman or Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan and while so far there’s been nothing official on who will play this universe’s Caped Crusader, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make sense that it would be Robert Pattinson.
You see, while Gunn et al. are creating the DCU, Matt Reeves is continuing to flesh out his vision of Gotham City.
With The Batman II currently filming, so fans are still wondering – hoping, perhaps? – that we’ll learn that Pattinson’s Batman/Bruce Wayne will cross over and bring his Gotham City into the DCU.
When asked about a potential crossover last year, Reeves said: “Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it really comes down to whether or not it makes sense.”

But this is far from confirmation, but with Reeves’ universe already on its second movie and already having had a cracking spinoff series in The Penguin, not to mention a novel and awesome Riddler comic, it would be easy to bring all that lore into the DCU.
“I think it would be kind of tough to have this version of Bruce outside of that world,” Pattinson says, adding: “It’s one of the only characters I guess because of the length of the shoots but also it’s such a specific kind of [style], the tone of it gets inside you.
If all the DCU was tonally like Superman or Supergirl, I would agree with him, but we’ve had lots of adult-skewed DCU material so far, with HBO’s Lanterns being very dark in tone and, well, we’ve all see the Clayface trailer and that looks like it could live in Reeves’ Gotham with minimal issue – side note, I was chatting to my brother earlier about the new Clayface trailer and he actually thought it was part of the Reeves universe, so there’s definitely a way to pull it all together.

Add to this that recently Pattisnosn was discussing The Batman Part II and he said: “It’s so ambitious. I mean, I sort of said the other day on something that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another.
“It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.”
This admission that the sequel is considerably different from the first had many wondering if he was already telling us that this was going to be part of the DCU.

Don’t forget too that this isn’t the first time Pattinson’s Batman has been embroiled in crossover goodness; he was almost at one point set to appear in the Netflix Sandman series but it never really took off.
Personally, given the look and feel of Lanterns and Clayface, I believe that bringing Pattinson’s Batman into the DCU wouldn’t be that big a task… if Gunn announced it was so tomorrow, then it would just… be so.

But I also understand that this isn’t how Reeves planned his Batman world. I just think it would make a lot of sense… that said, how would The Brave and the Bold take place in that world, given Pattinson is already 40 years old and his Batman is still without a Robin.
Anyways, I love to think about this stuff, don’t you?
