Hold on… did Mike Myers just tease a new Wayne’s World movie?
If, like me, you were a metaller in the 90s, then you will know Wayne’s World and how it gave us the brilliance of Mike Myers long before Austin Powers or Shrek. It was up there with Clerks and Clueless when it comes to movies that mattered at that period, giving younger movie fans a voice on the big screen and it was something incredibly special.
It also gave the world Bohemian Rhapsody for the second time and helped ensure that headbanging would never go away.
Are you ready for another Austin Powers movie? Mike Myers says it’s coming
Starring Myers as Wayne and Dana Carvey as his best friend Garth, the two movies picked up from the Canadian comedy sketches created by the two and featuring them as best friends who ran a tv show, Wayne’s World, from Wayne’s basement and starring the duo and their hapless friends. The first movie, mirroring reality, saw the show explode into the zeitgeist, catapulting the duo into stardom.
The second movie, Wayne’s World 2, coming just a year later in 1993, is even better and sees Wayne and Garth trying to make a concert that Wayne had foretold to him in a dream. It’s even better than it sounds.
Sadly, though, after Wayne’s World 2, Myers and Carvey had a bust-up and Myers moved on to, as mentioned above, Austin Powers and Shrek and it seemed that Wayne’s World was forever gone.
Until 2021, the pair reunited for a Super Bowl spot and Wayne and Garth were back in our living rooms and for those few minutes, all was right in the world. And then… nothing.
Then, just a couple of months ago, Myers hinted that Austin Powers, last seen in 2002’s Goldmember, might make a return and now he seems to be hinting at the return of Wayne… and presumably, should it happen, Garth.
Taking to Instagram, Myers posted an image, below, of a black baseball cap – Wayne’s signature head-warming device – with the words Make the World Wayne’s Again on the front, with the caption and hashtags: Oh yes; it will be mine! #waynesworldwednesday #maketheworldwaynesagain
Look, I know this might be nothing more than mocking the ‘Make America Great Again’ red baseball cap, but I’m an optimist and am hoping that a new Wayne’s World is in the pipeline… personally, I would take that over a fourth Austin Powers movie any day.
So, there you go, Wayne’s World 3 teased, thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
While you’re here, So, I Married an Axe Murderer is still Myers’ best movie.
