Are you ready for another Austin Powers movie? Mike Myers says it’s coming

Are you ready for more Austin Powers, baby? Because it looks like it might be on the cards.

You’ll recall star Mike Myers returned as Austin Powers’ mortal enemy Dr Evil in the recent Verizon ad, below, but this might not be the last time we see Myers as Evil… or Austin (hopefully no Fat Bastard though).

On Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party, Myers was asked by an audience member if there was going to be a fourth Austin Powers movie and, not one to give away too much, Myers simply replied “yes”.

But that’s not the only tease Myers has given in recent days.

Remember the aforementioned Verizon ad?:

Well, afterwards, Myers posted an image of himself as Dr Evil along with Seth Green as Scott Evil, Rob Lowe as Number 2, and Mindy Sterling as Frau Farbissina and he wrote: “Had a delightfully EVIL time getting this band back together! We’ll have to do it again soon mwah-hah-hah-hah”

So it really looks like Myers wants to revisit the world of Austin Powers.

Drew Goddard confirms he’s still working on the new Matrix movie

Interestingly, the ad was directed by Jay Roach, the director of the Austin Powers movies, who was asked about a possible return to the franchise in 2020 and said at that time: “I wouldn’t say ‘never’ never, but it does depend on Mike having something that he’s inspired about and after all these years it hasn’t quite clicked yet. But I’m always game for anything he wants to do. He’s a genius and he helped me get started and it was a blast.”

When the first Austin Powers movie arrived in 1997 – almost thirty years, that sounds like an anniversary waiting for a new movie to celebrate – it really became a cultural phenomenon and, as cultural phenomena tend to do, it dwindled as the years and sequels went on. That said, when Mike Myers is at his best, he’s a force to be reckoned with, and the Powers franchise does give him a canvas to paint in all his comedic colours, so I could definitely see this being something to look forward to.

So, I Married an Axe Murderer is still his best movie and I’ll die on that hill.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I want to hear ’em all.
