Showrunner reveals Dexter spinoff series Trinity would have featured another fan favourite character

We all know that there was a planned Trinity prequel series a while back that would have expanded the Dexter universe and given us the origins of one of his most famous victims, Arthur Mitchell, the Trinity Killer. Alas, it wasn’t to be, but we’re still getting details on what that series might have given us.

And the latest bit of info from showrunner Clyde Phillips has me even sadder that we’re not going to get the series.

In a new interview for the show’s 20th anniversary, Phillips addressed the series and revealed that Mitchell, which would have been narrated by the great John Lithgow, reprising his role as the older Mitchell, wouldn’t have been the only Dexter familiar face to appear.

Phillips revealed that Special Agent Frank Lundy, played in Dexter by Keith Carradine, left, would have appeared as a young agent who was putting together seemingly unrelated cases and found himself on the hunt for one of history’s most prolific serial killers.

It’s a story we more-or-less know from Dexter but seeing how it all came together would have been a thrill for fans.

On top of that, Phillips confirmed that yes, there was a whole ten-episode season written and ready to go before Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount, when the show was cancelled alongside the second season of the much-better-than-it-should-be, Dexter: Original Sin.

Looks like Michael Bay IS set to return for another Transformers movie

On the possibility of the show ever seeing light of day, Phillips said that while the internet rumours would have you believe it’s likely, he personally doesn’t believe it’s going to happen under the new management. He also said that, despite rumours, we won’t be seeing any of the cast of Original Sin in flashbacks in Dexter: Resurrection season 2. Bad news upon bad news.

This is all sad news, as Dexter’s current team are doing great work with the show almost – still not there yet – as good as it was in its heyday. Personally, I would love to see the Trinity story make it to the pages of a novel or comic series, as it’s still weird that, in the world we live in, Dexter has never branched out into other mediums (I know there are Dexter novels and comics, but those are based on the original Jeff Lindsay stories, not the series, which is very, very different).

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
