Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe gets a new addition this Christmas season as the Mayfair Witches return for season three with a new title, Mayfair Witches: Salem Coven.
And AMC just revealed the new teaser trailer at New York Comic Con.
The series, which jumped from New Orleans in season one to Scotland for season 2, is now heading to the one placw almost everyone thinks of when witches are mentioned: Salem, Massachusetts.
Showrunner Esta Spalding says the title change is because “this season is bigger and colder and very Salem-centric!” Moving away from the atmospheric streets of New Orleans and the isolated highlands of Scotland”.
Tidbit:
Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe on the small screen is made up of the Interview with the Vampire series, The Mayfair Witches and the cancelled Talamasca: The Secret Order.
Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe is about to get two major new shows
The new season will suggest that rather than the famous 1693 witch trials persecuting innocent women, they might have been actually hunting real witches, saying: “The interesting thing about Salem is that people were innocent; they weren’t witches. So what we find interesting about Salem is that we keep imagining that there were a bunch of witches there who were unhappy about what was happening in 1693.”
The series will once again be led by Alexandra Daddario as Rowan and will also see Silence of the Lambs star Ted Levine return as Julien Mayfair.
Adding to the cast will be Breaking Bad star Betsy Brandt as ‘fun’ new witch Katherine Mayfair, who said of the role: “I love her at her best and at her worst, and I had no idea. Playing a witch, it feels really good, really natural too.”
Mayfair Witches: Salem Coven arrives on December 30th.
