The X-Files are being officially opened again as Ryan Coogler’s reboot gets the full season order from Hulu.
Look, did I think this was a sure thing? Yes but had you asked me a year ago, I would have said a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot was a certainty too and yet…
Either way, the truth is out there and the hunt is on for it again.
Black Panther and Sinners’ Coogler, a self-confessed X-fan, has been working on this for a long time and wrote and directed the feature-length pilot episode and now, along with showrunner Jennifer Yale, the new series full of aliens, monsters and oddities, is coming.

While it’s believed David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles, the new series will be led by Rooster’s Danielle Deadwyler and Yesterday’s Himesh Patel will star as ‘two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.’
On creating the new series, Coogler said: “I’ve loved The X-Files for a long time, so getting the chance to write and direct the pilot has meant a great deal to me.
“What Chris Carter created is special, and we wanted to honor everything that made the original series connect with so many people while also finding our own way into that world. Danielle and Himesh, along with the rest of our cast, have brought such original perspectives and performances to these characters, and watching that come together has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.”
While there’s no word on when the new series will arrive, there have been talks recently of Coogler’s already complete pilot getting a theatrical release – Chris Carter’s original series had two big-screen outings – so there’s always a chance we’ll meet this new team on the big screen before they come into our living rooms.
We also know that Carter is keen to bring the original stars back for one more series, so there’s still a chance of two X-Files series existing simultaneously… now, wouldn’t that be a thing?
So, the new X-Files is opening. Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
