Sony planning a female led Spider-Man spin-off, Venom film eyes 2017 release

August 4th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is planning a female-led superhero film set in their Amazing Spider-Man Cinematic Universe.

The Sinister Six spin-off is already set for November 11th, 2016. Now the trade reports that Sony has hired Lisa Joy Nolan (Westworld, Reminiscence) to pen the script for the female led film. Sony is targeting a 2017 release date. We don’t know yet which character it will feature. Possibilities include Black Cat (Felicity Jones in Amazing Spider-Man 2), Silver Sable, Spider-Woman and more. Who would you like to see get a movie?

Deadline adds that plans for the Venom spin-off are still moving ahead and that the rumored title for the film is Venom: Carnage. The film, which will be directed by Alex Kurtzman, is also eyeing a 2017 release date.

So that means Sinister Six in 2016, and Venom and female spin-off film in 2017. What do you think?

Is this why Amazing Spider-Man 3 was pushed back until 2018?
