The Dark Tower connection in upcoming Stephen King and Richard Chizmar novel?

April 15th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Rejoice constant readers, it looks like Stephen King is set to return to the world of the Dark Tower (we hope).

In an announcement of his new book with Richard Chizmar, Gwendy’s Last Task, the authors return to the story of Gwendy, who we first met in their books Gwendy’s Button and then Gwendy’s Magic Feather and this time, it seems our heroine may have a bigger task that ever before.

According to Publisher’s Marketplace:

New York Times bestselling authors Stephen King and Richard Chizmar’s Gwendy’s Final Task , the last installment of a trilogy where Gwendy must journey from Castle Rock to a faraway destination to execute a final mission to save the world – and possibly all worlds will be published in hardcover by Cemetery Dance in February 2022.

Now, this could mean anything but fans of King and the Tower will definitely, as I have, conclude that ‘a faraway destination’ and ‘to save the world – and possibly all worlds’ feels like it could mean that Gwendy, like other characters in King’s universe, may have business at the Tower, the nexus of all things…

I’ve just picked up the second book, having really enjoyed the first and when book three releases next February, I’ll be hoping that once more, all things follow the beam… and if we see get to meet up with a certain Gunslinger or his Ka-tet (if you know, you know), well that would already be the high point of 2022.

What say you all? Does it sound like Gwendy is heading to Mid-World in the Button Trilogy? I certainly hope so…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
