Hellboy in Hell #9
The Spanish Bride
Writer & Artist – Mike Mignola
Colors – Dave Stewart
Publisher – Dark Horse Comics

I’ll be the first to admit that at times Mignola’s Hellboy books stray from my normal wheelhouse

of Lovecraft and related mythos and delve into things I can only moderately understand (Milton,Dante, The Bible), or something I know next to nothing about (Shakespeare) but I continue to love it.

This issue, Red is still on his whirlwind destruction tour of Hell when he’s attacked by former Captains of Hell that may or may not have the upper hand! A mysterious Mexican wedding and person of interest from Hellboy’s past turn up leaving the RIGHT HAND OF DOOM to decide his next move!

Mignola is absolutely still on point art wise, and the story telling definitely leaves you wanting the next issue, although, am I crazy, or did this book take a hiatus somewhere along the way?

Dave Stewarts coloring as always looks beautiful, making most of Mignola’s work look gallery worthy (I actually own two 1/50 Mignola/Stewart prints myself).

If I were to criticize anything about the book it would be the length of each issue, they seem a bit short to me but maybe I’m spoiled?

Overall, Hellboy In Hell #9 The Spanish Bride delivers what it promises, elevated storytelling and beautiful artwork.
