Publisher: Image Comics

Matt Fraction you dirty wonderful GENIUS!

His creation Satellite Sam has been one of my favorite books every month. With its fantastic dialogue and art, I was content with his fantastic work.

But then he brings out “Sex Criminals”!

With a title like that you have to ask yourself what kind of debauchery is this? What sick twisted perversions were going to be filling the panels of this comic? Well actually it is a hilarious comedy that I could not stop laughing at from cover to cover! Fraction has this way of making things sexy and yet still so artistic in its representation, it’s unbelievable.

This new comedy that has been tagged as putting the “comic” back in comics is the tale of a girl named Suzie who finds out that, when she reaches sexual climax, can stop time. Now I have to say, THAT IS PRETTY AWESOME, but that is not all! The whole trip through Suzie discovering this unique power as it were is filled with smart witty dialogue and some pretty hilarious visuals that had me in stitches. There is so much that is told to her but not the information she is looking for, but the information that IS given is some of the most absurd things I have ever seen or read, and its fantastic!

However can she be the only one in the world who has this power? Is she doomed to whenever she reaches the apex to be in a world that she calls “The Quiet”? Actually she isn’t and that is where Jon comes in, for he has the exact same power as Suzie. Now what would you do if you found someone just like you with the power to stop time after you are done making the “O” face? ROB BANKS OF COURSE! How will this play out for these two characters that in one issue have made me a lifelong fan? Sadly we have to wait for next issue to find out as we are left hanging. However that just makes me want to read what comes next.

Matt Fraction has done it again, he has taken a book that based on the cover and synopsis had me going “ok I’ll check it out” to “OMG I have to buy this every month”! His way of writing can make you feel so many emotions it tugs at the heartstrings. This book gives you all of that but mostly gives you the biggest laughs you will have in a while from a comic. Add that to the fantastic art from Chip Zdarsky and this is a must have for comic fans. (Well those who can understand the material)

Zdarsky’s art is simply superb from beginning to end; the way the world changes from when she is normal to when she is in the quiet is night and day. The uses of colors and prominent outlines when she is telling the tale give it a look almost akin to a Betty and Veronica book, but once she reaches the climax you are thrown into a world of reds and blues and pinks and purples that is almost psychedelic. That and there is a pretty funny artistic and writing twist to what happens to Jon once he climaxes as well. I won’t spoil it for you but you will die laughing.

Okay, enough gushing! Matt Fraction you are a fantastic, mad and dirty genius and I want you to keep it up!
