When we last left the Bertram and Spatz in The Accelerators #2 it looked like it was going to be the end of Spatz, however in issue #3 you learn that luckily that is not the case. So grab a seat and relax while I take you through time to the year 2046…

The Accelerators is a series that poses the question “what if you could travel forward in time, but were unable to go back?” It follows two men as the accidentally travel forward in time with their time travel “doughnuts”. The doughnuts were taken away from them in issue #2 before they were forced into the arena, which is where a group of participants battle to the death with only one winner. However when Spatz and Bertram aka the Major (who is really a Captain) enter the arena they both manage to survive. The Major is declared the winner, but Spatz gets the privilege of leaving the games alive and the pleasure of meeting Bob, the woman (yes that’s right I mean a female) who is in charge of the games. Bob takes Spatz under her wing and shows him all the advancements of the “doughnuts” through the years and explains to him exactly what they do. Like most things they were mass marketed and given the name “Accelerators” (hmmm where have I heard that word before?? Oh yeah it’s the title of the comic!!)

Meanwhile the Major is having some problems in the holding cell he’s being kept in between games. To prepare for his next time in the arena he was to go through some “upgrades” which got postponed. However to make it up to him the guards allow him to choose whatever weapons/protection he wants for his next battle. Then he is released into the arena to face a newly upgraded Samurai who is an absolute beast! Well he survive?? I hope so.

Spatz however, is up in a luxury box watching the Games when Bob drops a bombshell piece of information on him that I think will be a game changer for him and the rest of the series.

This is definitely my favorite “indie series” that’s out right now. The concept is amazing and the artwork is spot on. Just when I think I know what they are going to do, they do something completely different which will definitely keep you interested cover to cover. If you aren’t reading this series, you should be. And if you are reading it you should be telling everyone you know that they need to read it too.

The Accelerators is the future of comics!!
