Marvel made waves last year when they made Thor “unworthy” of wielding Mjolnir, and his “replacement’ was going to be female. Yes, a female Thor, and to add mystery to it all, we didn’t know who she would be.
Well, after several issues and LOTS of speculation…we know who she is.
IF YOU ARE STILL READING THIS, YOU WANT TO KNOW WHO SHE IS!!! NO TURNING BACK FROM THIS POINT ON!!!
In tomorrow’s Thor #8, it gets revealed that…
Jane Foster is Thor. Yes, THAT Jane Foster, his friend/former love interest. And in the recent comics, a character who is fighting terminal breast cancer. So where does fighting as Thor come into all of this? Well, there’s a twist on this tale as writer Jason Aaron revealed:
“But there’s a catch: She’s also battling breast cancer. When she lifts the hammer, she becomes a superpowered god; when she’s not using it, she transforms back into her weakened mortal self. What’s more, it appears that the magic transitions are making her condition worse.”
This is interesting for numerous reasons, not the least of which is that if this holds true (her having breast cancer that is terminal) it means her time as Thor is limited. And as we saw recently in Avengers, Thor became worthy once more. Could this be a sign of things to come? We’ll find out.
