Remember at the end of Age of Ultron when Galactus showed up and threatened the Ultimate Universe? Fans have been clamoring ever since wondering if this would spell the end of the Ultimate Universe. Well, in the Ultimate Marvel panel at SDCC, which featured Brian Michael Bendis, Ultimates writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso, answers weren’t given for sure, but things still don’t look great for the Ultimate Universe.
The big talk of the panel was the new book Hunger and that which spins out of it Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand. The series will be handled by Bendis and Mark Bagley and will tell the story of Galactus coming to Ultimate Earth to get his grub on. The series is also said to break the barrier between the Ultimate Earth and the mainstream Marvel Universe, known as Earth-616. It will be up to the heroes to decide which Earth is worth the saving. So though everyone was tight lipped about Ultimate Earth going away, it’s a pretty safe bet which Earth will be the one left standing.
The mini-series will bring together virtually everybody, but the focus will be on Miles Morales’ Ultimate Spider-Man who is said to play a huge role in the “biggest storyline in his heroic arc”. When asked if Morales would team up with Superior Spider-Man in the same way he did with 616 Peter Parker in the crossover Spider-Men, Bendis wouldn’t give a straight answer, but did say this book would be the emotional sequel to Spider-Men. Not sure how to take that, but anyone who read Spider-Men knows it was quite the emotional roller coaster. Bendis was also asked if the 616 Miles Morales that was alluded to at the end of Spider-Men would make an appearance, to which he replied,” We do have big plans for that.” He was also asked if Morales would get his own book in the 616 universe and Bendis said “Yes. There’s always a chance.” Alonso also added that we should watch for the end of Cataclysm for more answers on that.
So, though we have no official answers as of yet, things are not looking good on Ultimate Earth.
