SDCC 2026 FIRST LOOK: TMNT: The Last Ronin III — Return for New York

July 25th, 2026 by Marc Comments

All the way from SDCC 2026, we have our first look at the final story in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin arc.

The so-called Roninverse began on 202o with The Last Ronin, which told the story of the last remaining Turtle, fighting to survive and for revenge in a dark, twisted future. From there we got a prequel series, The Last Ronin: The Lost Years (2022), and finally The Last Ronin II — Re-Evolution (2024).

Now, we have our first look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin III — Return for New York featuring Casey Marie Jones, daughter of Casey Jones and April O’Neil. The art is by Isaac and Esau Escorza and colorist Luis Antonio Delgado.

Co-writer Tom Waltz says of the new series: “When [co-creator] Kevin Eastman and I sat down to write the original TMNT: The Last Ronin, we had high hopes readers would love the story just as much as we loved telling it. Little did we know, that love would be exponentially returned to us and our amazing art teams… From that first volume, throughout all the subsequent prequels/sequels that have followed in what we now fondly call the Roninverse. And, here we are, capping off the main trilogy with TMNT: The Last Ronin III — Return for New York…and we couldn’t be happier!”

The new series features the return of the full original creative team, Kevin Eastman, Waltz, the Escorza brothers, Delgado and Ben Bishop.

“TMNT: The Last Ronin movie isn’t dead,” says creator as new one-shot comic revealed

On this being the final chapter, TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastmas says: “It’s hard to believe this journey started nearly 40 years ago with a simple 25-page outline by Peter Laird and myself — finally brought to life with such an incredible creative team, the support of Nickelodeon and IDW, and most of all the fans.

“We couldn’t have done it without you! We all hope this final installment of this trilogy is worthy, we’re all working hard to bring this important part of this next generation of Ninja Turtles to a place we never dreamed we’d be able to when we first started. Thanks a billion trillion!”

There’s no release date yet. The new series is expected to arrive next summer.
