Just when you think Superman is predictable, he goes and pulls the rug out from under us with a new ability.

DC Comics are promising that tomorrow’s Superman #38 will see the Man of Steel wearing a new costume and flashing some new abilities too.

Talking to USA Today, DC’s Geoff Johns says: “It’s definitely the most destructive power Superman has… and he’s not exactly excited about it because it is so dangerous and there are consequences.”

Johns says that the power will be unveiled in the finale to the comic drawn by John Romita Jr and it’s “very unstable [something] Superman’s going to have to deal with for quite a while.”

He concludes that we’ll see Superman “in ways that we haven’t seen in a long, long time [This] just fundamentally has the character asking certain questions he hasn’t asked himself and experiencing certain things he hasn’t experienced.”

All change for Superman, huh? Scroll down to see the panel that shows the power – whatever it may be – and beyond is a chart from DC revealing just when superman has attained all his powers.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
