Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Graphic Novel Universe is coming! First three books revealed!

April 27th, 2025 by Marc Comments

I love a good universe to dive into, from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy to John Wick via Riddick, I just love getting lost in lore, be it horror, action, sci-fi or fantasy, all I ask is that it be good and rich and that it grabs my attention and, as such, it has always bugged me that I never got into Terry Pratchett’s Discworld universe.

Well, now it seems that rather than go back to the beginning of the massive collection of novels, I can get into them in an all-new way, thanks to the just-announced Discworld Graphic Novel Universe which kicks off one year from now.’

Check out the press release for the first three installments:

We are delighted to announce that after years of everyone asking, and hoping, and manifesting, we are today unveiling the launch of the Discworld Graphic Novel Universe, bringing the fantasy world of Sir Terry Pratchett to a whole new format. But which novel will we start with?

…how about three of them?

The younger reader’s strand will begin with the beloved The Wee Free Men. Tiffany Aching’s adventures will unfold in this new format, adapted by Terry’s daughter, Rhianna Pratchett, with the artist to be announced.

Readers can also dive into Thief of Time, adapted by LEGO comics author Gary Chudleigh, illustrated by the award-winning Rachael Stott, the artist behind works for Marvel’s New X-Men, Star Trek and Doctor Who, and coloured by award-winning colourist Ellie Wright.

Monstrous Regiment will complete the launch trilogy of what we hope to be an expansive graphic novel universe, with the rest of the creative team, and more titles, to be announced.

When will they be released?

Thief of Time will publish on 2 April 2026 from Transworld (PRH)

Monstrous Regiment will publish in Autumn 2026 from Transworld (PRH).

The Wee Free Men will publish in Spring 2027 from Puffin (PRH).

But wait. There’s more…

“I’m delighted to be adapting The Wee Free Men, which is one of my favourite books by my father,” says Rhianna. “Growing up in Wiltshire, England’s ‘Chalk Country’, and having a shepherdess grandmother makes it a very personal book for me, as well as being the gateway into the superb Tiffany Aching series. The book has so much heart, joy and humour that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages, and I hope the graphic novel collaboration with Puffin will open up these marvellous stories to a new audience.”

We’ll be inviting readers behind the scenes of all the graphic novels, seeing the work in progress, hearing from the creatives working on the various titles, and hearing more about people’s connections to Terry’s work.

Did you know, for example, that Rachael Stott’s favourite Discworld book is Thief of Time?

Why these books?

As firm champions of ‘starting in the wrong place’ with Discworld, we are delighted to capture this spirit as we embark on this new endeavour. From fan favourite characters, to books that fall further down the chronological order, this is the chance to embrace the expansive, welcoming world that lies within all of Terry’s pages.

Check out these early pages from the Thief of Time:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
