You may recall that last year the legendary cartoonist Gary Larson launched a new website with the promise of new content on the way (here).
Well, now we have some of that new content!
If you go here you will see three new cartoons from Larson… and, as a man who has his complete back catalogue, anything new by him is cause for celebration!
On his new official site, TheFarSide.com, Larson writes of the ‘New Stuff’:
“So a few years ago — finally fed up with my once-loyal but now reliably traitorous pen — I decided to try a digital tablet,” Larson writes. “I knew nothing about these devices but hoped it would just get me through my annual Christmas card ordeal. I got one, fired it up, and lo and behold, something totally unexpected happened: within moments, I was having fun drawing again.
“I was stunned at all the tools the thing offered, all the creative potential it contained,” Larsen continues. “I simply had no idea how far these things had evolved. Perhaps fittingly, the first thing I drew was a caveman.”
“So here goes. I’ve got my coffee, I’ve got this cool gizmo, and I’ve got no deadlines. And — to borrow from Sherlock Holmes — the game is afoot,” Larson says. “Again, please remember, I’m just exploring, experimenting, and trying stuff. New Stuff. I have just one last thing to say before I go: thank you, clogged pen.”
Mr Larson, we will patiently sit and wait… you take your time, lord knows the world needs you now more than ever.
Larson’s iconic strip The Far Side hasn’t been published in over 25 years, but at its height it was published in almost 2,000 newspapers and was found on calendars, posters, cards and pretty much everywhere a comic could be published and I have yet to read one of his panels and not smile.
On that top, it seems that after years being gone, Larson is having his work published on a wall calendar and a day-by-calendar… so it already looks like 2021 is going to be a brighter day!
Anyway, let me know when you read the strips and let me know what you think.
