Michael Cera, (“Arrested Development”, Juno), Emily Browning (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Sucker Punch), Augstin Silva (Crystal Fairy) and Catalina Sandino Moreno (Fast Food Nation, Maria Full of Grace).

The film was entirely shot in southern Chile with Christopher Doyle as Director of Photography. The breath-taking landscapes of Lago Ranco and Santiago, serve the perfect raw but restrained backdrop for the atmospheric thriller.

The unnervingMagic Magic is centred around a shy young girl, Alicia (Juno Temple) who vacations with a group of friends in a remote part of Chilé, where she enters a world off disturbing landscapes and begins to mentally unravel.

Synopsis

Alicia’s (Juno Temple) vacation starts like any other, when she visits her best friend Sarah (Emily Browning) in Santiago, Chile. Sarah has planned a fun filled trip with Alicia and her new group of friends, Brink (Michael Cera), her boyfriend Agustin (Agustin Silva) and his not so fun, chaperoning sister, Barbara (Catalina Sandino Moreno).

They plan a road trip to Agustin’s parents home in south Chile, when Sarah suddenly has to return to school for unexplained reasons that leave Alicia alone in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people. Sarah is scheduled to return in a couple of days and convinces Alicia to continue on the trip without her…

Alicia desperately tries to settle into her unfamiliar surroundings but finds it difficult. Everyone else thinks her increasingly erratic behaviour is irrational and that she is simply being a spoiled brat. The language barrier, atop their lack of compassion, pushes her further into isolation and closer to the edge. As time progresses, Alicia’s behaviour becomes more and more bizarre, to the point where the group is frightened for both their safety and hers. The vacation has turned into a living nightmare for all. Now realizing she is in desperate need of help, and with miles of beauty standing between them and civilization, the group seeks out help from the only available resource, the region’s indigenous inhabitants, the Mapuche. A decision they will never forget.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
