Assassin’s Creed movie gets the Exodus: Gods and Kings writing duo

April 8th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

The upcoming big screen adaptation of the hit video game franchise Assassin’s Creed has nabbed two new writers. Deadline reports that Bill Collage and Adam Cooper, best known for their work on Ridley Scott’s upcoming biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, will rewrite Michael Lesslie’s adapted screenplay.

The original Assassin’s Creed game primarily revolves around the rivalry between two ancient secret societies: the Assassins and the Knights Templar. The protagonist Desmond Miles a descendant of Assassins, is captured by a secret organization with ties to the Knight Templar. They use a device called the animus to allow him to relive the memories of his ancestors to retrieve valuable historical artifacts, the first time going back to the Crusades.

No director is attached yet, although rumors  have mentioned Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa as a candidate. Michael Fassbender remains attached to star and produce.

Assassin’s Creed is set for August 7th, 2015.
