Avengers: Age of Ultron to film in Italy

January 25th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Avengers: Age of Ultron will film partially at Bard Fortress in Italy, according to BadTaste.it

The site notes that the Governor of Valle d’Aosta, Augusto Rollandin, held a press conference this morning announcing that the Bard Fortress (above) and the surrounding areas in north Italy will serve as a shooting location for the film beginning this March.

It’s unclear if the main cast for the film will travel to the area for shooting or if it will be mostly second unit.

The local press did get an official statement from local authorities:

(ANSA) – Aosta , JANUARY 24 – will Fort Bard and Aosta Valley to act as a ‘ set’ of many scenes in the fantasy blockbuster Marvel’s ‘ The Avengers : Age of Ultron ‘ , sequel to ‘ The Avengers ‘ produced by Marvel Studios and Disney Wald [ SIC ] in 2012. It ‘ was announced today by the President of the Region of Valle d’ Aosta , Augusto Rollandin .

There could be any number of reasons for “many scenes” to be set there, but an obvious one is to serve as a Hydra base.

The Whedon sequel stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and James Spader.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for release on May 1, 2015
