Baron Cohen departs Freddie Mercury biopic?

July 22nd, 2013 by bash 2 Comments

Deadline is reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen has walked away from the planned Freddie Mercury biopic.

The site claims the comic departed the project over creative differences with Mercury’s remaining band members in Queen.

Apparently Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon (if involved) — who have script and director approval — want the film to be a family-friendly PG flick, while Cohen has always intended for it to be an R-rated, unflinching look at Mercury’s life.

Cohen recently commissioned a script by Peter Morgan and developed the project with directors like David Fincher and Tom Hooper, but the band members never signed off.

Is this disappointing news or is a Freddie Mercury biopic a bad idea anyway?

Hi all. I'm Bash and love anything and everything to do with Star Wars. Although I've watched hundreds of movies, read dozens of books and played numerous computer games from other genres and franchises since, nothing has come close to seeing George Lucas' epic for the very first time. I hope you all like the site and come back often.

Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest singers of all time in my opinion sad to see that he’s kesving the project an the guys from queen need to realize you can’t make a rock biopic of one of the greatest of all time Kid friendly PG I mean how would they deal with him being gay just not have it in the movie beacuse we all know the MPAA would never allow a movie with any sort of gay relationship / plot .. be anything less then PG-13 beacuse we all know they are just stuck up old hags at the mpaa
