October 17th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Greetings fellow Nerds and Nerdettes

Next weekend (Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th) at the Odyssey Arena Belfast, will see the first film and comic con by Showmasters. This event will bring together the biggest number of film, tv, comic book writers and artists that has ever been assembled under one roof in the emerald Isle.

Showmasters, who also hold London Film and Comic Con, Collectormania and Autographica, have finally brought their Con to Belfast and what an opening guest list they have!

Headlining the event will be Billie Piper (Rose Tyler from Doctor Who) and John Rhys Davies (Sallah in the Indy films and Gimli in The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Billy Boyd (Pippin in The Lord of the Rings).

For fans of the Star Wars movies there are six guests attending, including Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Alan Harris (Bossk) and Paul Blake (Greedo).

Also attending is Sarah Douglas (Ursa from Superman II), Ariana Richards (Lex from Jurassic Park) and Trevor Steedman from Aliens.

TV fans will certainly be impressed – especially fans of Doctor Who and Game of Thrones – Doctor Who fans will be able to meet Paul McGann (The Doctor from Doctor Who: The Movie), Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper in Torchwood), John Leeson (K-9), Dan Starkey (Sontaran) and Anjli Mohindra (Rani Chandra from the Sarah Jane Adventures). For Game of Thrones fans there will be Ian McElhinney (Sir Barriston Selmy), Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) and Art Parkinson (Rickon Stark) and Will Simpson (Storyboard artist).

In attendance from the comic world will be David Lloyd (V for Vendetta) , Simon Bisley (Batman), Glen Fabry (Hellblazer), James O’Barr (The Crow) who all will be on hand for autographs and displaying their artwork.

Aside from autographs and photographs, there will be guest talks panels throughout the entire weekend. These talks panels are brilliant for fans of the show as the guests usually go into great details about filming of the film/tv shows and more interestingly, the on set antics wheich are usually a great laugh.

For those attendees that are looking for the more unusual in photographs, there will be special prop areas including a Jabba The Hutt Set where you can get your pic taken with the king of slime and villainy in the Star Wars universe courtesy of the Emerald Garrison; steal the One Ring from a life sized Gollum from Lord of the Rings, take control of The TARDIS from its control panels from Doctor Who; or if you are really bold, get your picture taken with a Raptor from Jurassic Park!

One aspect of any comic com is Cosplay and Belfast Film and Comic are eagerly looking forward to attendees turning up all manner of costumes from film, tv, gaming and comic universe. This is something that fans of all ages can take part in and with Halloween coming up, be prepared to meet some scary characters!

With additional guests being added between now and the event taking place and more items such as The Back to the Future DeLorean and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang vehicles attending, there really is something for everyone.
