Bill Paxton to join Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

TV Guide has unveiled the first look at veteran actor Bill Paxton as Agent John Garrett in an upcoming episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Paxton will reportedly appear for at least four episodes of the series in the role.

Executive producer Jed Whedon:

“We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger.”

Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen added:

“He is the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he gets.”

Agent John Garrett made his comic book debut in Frank Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz’s Electra: Assassin, in which he was given some cybernetic upgrades after suffering injuries in the line of duty. Might we be seeing something like this in the show?

All Whedon would say on the matter is:

“when Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.”

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 8 P.M. on ABC.
