Community may yet reach its “Six Seasons and a Movie” goal after all. After NBC initially cancelled the cult comedy, and even after Hulu passed on saving the series, Yahoo Screen has stepped in at the last moment to reunite the Greendale Gang for Community season 6.
Community will return for an additional 13 episodes to air on an unspecified date in the future on Yahoo. Given the last-minute nature of the deal (the actors’ contracts were set to expire today, June 30), it remains to be seen exactly how negotiations with the cast will pan out.
Yahoo Screen did tweet this out though:
Showrunner Dan Harmon on the epic news:
“I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo. I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”
Yahoo CMO Kathy Savitt:
“Yahoo is all about connecting the best creators to the audiences who love their work. ‘Community’ has an incredibly passionate and loyal fan base who have fought hard to keep this amazing show alive. We couldn’t be more excited to work with Dan, Joel, and the entire cast, as well as Sony, to deliver a great Season 6.”
We’ll have more on Community season 6 renewal as it becomes known, but in the meantime, what do you think?
Now we need to work on that movie…..
