Between Arrow and Flash, there are a LOT of DC Comics references that are shot out on a consistent basis. Some of which actually come to life in the shows themselves. However, two of the biggest icons in DC Comics history will not only not appear, you won’t even see their cities. Batman and Superman will not appear in Arrow or Flash.
“There are things we can do, and there are things we can’t,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. “I’m a huge fan of Nightwing. But there are cities we can use, and then there’s everything else. You won’t be hearing Gotham or Metropolis on the show anytime soon.”
It’s interesting to note however that there have been references to both Superman and Batman in the shows. Last weeks episode jokingly made a “man of steel” joke. Futhermore, it was confirmed in the Flash pilot that Wayne Enterprises does exist in the Arrow/Flashverse, as it will (in the future) merge with Queen Consolidated. Sadly, that appears to be the extent (at least for now) of their references.
If we can be sure of one thing, it’s that Arrow and Flash don’t necessarily need The Caped Crusader or the Man of Tomorrow to arrive anytime soon, cause they’re doing just fine on their own.
