Dayo Okeniyi cast in Terminator: Genesis, the same role that John Boyega was up for

March 28th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Earlier in the week it was reported that casting was underway for the final lead role in Terminator: Genesis. At the time, John Boyega was said to be the top choice to play the son of Miles Dyson, the Cyberdyne engineer largely responsible for the birth of Skynet. But Boyega was also up for a role in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII and could not appear in both.

Today, Variety reports that The Hunger Games star Dayo Okeniyi has the part.

Oddly enough Okeniyi was also said to be in the running for Star Wars.

Does this bit of news mean that Boyega will heading to a galaxy far, far away instead?

Danny Dyson was portrayed by DeVaughn Nixon in Terminator 2: Judgement Day and by Shawn Prince in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The reboot of the franchise being produced by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions will bring back Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role with Jai Courtney playing Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke as John Connor and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke playing Sarah Connor. The idea is to thread together ideas from the previous movies to relaunch the story of a cyborg from the future sent back to prevent computers from gaining sentience and turning on humanity.

The film will be released July 1, 2015.
