Dredd sequel could happen

January 24th, 2013 by bash Comments

Dredd director Pete Travis has said he is hopeful that a sequel could eventually be made.

While the theatrical release of the film last year pretty much tanked at the box office, recent DVD and Blu-ray sales have gone through the roof.

Speaking to, Travis said: “Who knows what will happen in the future. I just loved making this one. I hope it’s successful enough. I know Alex has lots of other stories he wants to tell, and I think Karl is just the epitome of Dredd. I really hope there’s an opportunity to tell some more stories together and take him on another journey.”

The studio behind the film, Lionsgate, meanwhile, released this press release: “The verdict is in and Lionsgate (LGF), a leading global entertainment company, announced today that the home entertainment release of DREDD claimed the number one spot on the DVD sell-through and Blu-ray charts with 650,000 units sold, making it the best-selling new release title of the year.

“Blu-ray units accounted for nearly 50% of week 1 POS at retail. In addition, the critically acclaimed thriller, starring Karl Urban (Star Trek) as the titular character Judge Dredd , was the top film download for the week, outpacing all other titles in digital sales as well.”

So there you have it. A Dredd sequel may just happen. Let’s keep our fingers crossed because last summer’s movie was brilliant and loved by all at FTN.

Hi all. I'm Bash and love anything and everything to do with Star Wars. Although I've watched hundreds of movies, read dozens of books and played numerous computer games from other genres and franchises since, nothing has come close to seeing George Lucas' epic for the very first time. I hope you all like the site and come back often.
