E3 Conference Report: PC Gamer and AMD

In attempt to steal some thunder from what has been traditionally a Console showcase AMD and PC Gamer teamed up to bring us the latest news in PC gaming. Honestly I went into this thinking they were going to struggle to impress and also kind of tired it being my third early hours conference in a row. A scheduling error meant a lot of people tuned in an hour early which didn’t really ingratiate them to a lot of people.

The show turned out to be quite good, a talk show style set up made it feel more laid back and they took time to discuss the games properly, like humans rather than marketing drones. It was a pleasant change of pace from the flashy information barrages that are the core of the other conferences

First up Killing Floor 2 from Tripwire interactive. They sat on an a talk show style set and played some video of it. they talked a lot about how new software technology helped them make it gory as possible. They also are very supportive of the modding community and so forth

Then they revealed another game they’ve been working on Rising Storm 2!

Squadron 42 couldn’t make it but they sent in a video message showing why they were to busy to come this time.

The Deus Ex team talked a bit about their graphics engine (called Dawn for some reason) and some gameplay was shown but very little new game information. Still looks great

Yeah, my tabletop loving nerd got more than a little excited by this! It does look like a perfect combination of the biggest two war gaming franchises

Microsoft talked up Windows 10 and announced a Killer Instinct port for PC and Gears of War Ultimate will also be coming across.

Other games slated are Fable:Legends and Gigantic, which is a 5vs 5 pvp game where players try to take out each others “Guardian” a giant creature that’s each teams spiritual leader. It’s an ambitious cross between shooter and MOBA though it looks a little too cartoon like for my taste.

Closed Beta starts in August.

CCP introduced us to their Oculus Rift space shooter which is apparently a truly mind blowing experience from all reports.

A new game from the creator of PC hit Day Z. The difference in the processes is that Day Z was a mod that took off and he sold on as he didn’t have the resources to manage its phenomenal success.  Ion is a full  game he designed from scratch using his previous experience to improve the process.

It’s not about travelling to and from space stations but what is happening on those stations that should grab the player. He also confided that his favourite bug so far is that when he clicked on a player last week, all that players organs fell out!

Obsidian announced their first expansion to Pillars of Eternity. The White March with new abilities and companions. then they claimed it was the spiritual successor of Baldurs Gate. Which upset me a bit to be honest, it’s good but Baldurs Gate good.

In the latest addition your Guild gets it’s very own map that they have to fight off AI enemies to win. Once they have done that the map is theirs to construct, make battle arenas, crafting workshops, or war rooms to name but a few that let you build tools to help your campaigns in the main game.

More gameplay details.  It seems Hitman is going to be more about constant player generated content rather than the main game.

ARMA 3 creators unveiled the 100 square mile of tropical island terrain that forms the main part of their upcoming expansion.

This is a unique and beautiful indie game which has been in development for four years so far. The game lets you play as a blind girl, using her other senses to find her way around the world.

And from a thing of beauty to the controversial and very, very, NSFW Dirty Bomb. I told you it was Not Safe For Work right?

From the creator of Gone Home comes the same style of game based on a Space Station this time. That’s it really.

A new horror game from the creators of Amnesia, if spending your gaming time cowering behind the couch is your bag, this one is for you.

Ever fancy building a settlement on Mars in a realistic manner? This is something I will definitely be getting as I’m Mars obsessed. Check this out.

Project Bluestreak aims to sit somewhere between shooters Gears and Guardian in style, it a purpose built 5 vs 5 PC shooting game that looks tolerable. it will support all peripherals apparently.

New Heroes of the Storm Expansion Eternal Conflict. Diablo characters enter the fray in two weeks!.

They also discussed the Starcraft 2 expansion Whispers of Oblivion which will bring some of the main characters story arcs to a an end.

Big announcement that the PC version will launch the same day as the PS4 version so no need to be rushing out to buy one!
