Edgar Ramirez to replace Gerard Butler in Point Break reboot

May 15th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Well after Gerard Butler dropped out of Point Break you may have been thinking that the movie wouldn’t get made. Sadly that is not the case. As we reported then, casting will continue.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Edgar Ramirez is in negotiations to replace Butler in Alcon Entertainment’s Point Break reboot.

Ramirez will play Bodhi, the character played by Patrick Swayze in the original film.

Alcon’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson had this to say:

“We consider Edgar one of the finest actors in the world today, and we are thrilled he will be creating a fresh new take on the iconic character of Bodhi.”

Well that sounds like a done deal.

Ericson Core (Invincible) is directing from a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer (Salt, Law Abiding Citizen). As for the rest of the cast: Luke Bracey is playing hotshot FBI agent Johnny Utah, originally played by Keanu Reeves. Ray Winstone is set for the role of Papas, originally played by Gary Busey.

The reboot is set in the world of international heists and extreme sports, and like the original, involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring.

Principal photography is set to begin in the summer.
