Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin to direct Bourne 5

November 9th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Universal has already put the Bourne Legacy sequel into development with Jeremy Renner returning for the fifth installment of the franchise. Deadline now reports that the project has found its director in Justin Lin (Fast & Furious).

The Bourne Legacy directed by Tony Gilroy which starred Renner as Aaron Cross in a new story spun off from the Matt Damon Bourne films, made $276 million worldwide gross, enough to warrant another installment.

Although plot details on the fifth Bourne are still under wraps, Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) is penning the script.

Justin Lin directed four of the Fast and Furious films, but he ultimately passed on Fast and Furious 7. The last three installments have grossed $1B collectively worldwide. Lin was key to making it probably the studio’s most valuable franchise.

Will Lin put the Bourne franchise back on track?

The fifth Bourne film is slated for release in summer 2015.
