It looks like the final Divergent film could end up on the small screen.
According to Variety, Lionsgate are keen on wrapping up the film series with a TV movie of ‘Ascendant’ that would introduce characters for a potential spinoff TV show
The ‘Divergent’ films have all seen diminishing box office returns each time a movie has been released despite hopes that this series of films could bring in box office returns as great as the ‘Hunger Games’.
Production on ‘Ascendant’ was intended to get underway this summer, however final box office numbers for the last film, ‘Allegiant’, have caused Lionsgate to have a change of heart.
The plan now is to have Lionsgate’s television group handle production of a TV movie that will finalise the storylines involving the current cast and introduce a new cast, who would then continue on with a TV series adaptation on either a traditional or streaming network.
