FIRST LOOK: Marvel’s Avengers NOW

July 17th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

In addition to the new female Thor, All-New Captain America, and Superior Iron Man, there’s new members of Marvel’s Avengers NOW.

The promo image above also includes Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Winter Soldier, Angela, Deathlok and Inhumans Medusa ans Inferno.

Each said by Entertainment Weekly to:

“play a more prominent role in the Marvel Universe going into 2015.”

In addition to Marvel’s big three, the rest makes plenty of sense.

Scarlet Witch and Ant-Man will both be on the big screen in 2015, the former in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the latter as the title character of a film starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas.

A Doctor Strange film directed by Scott Derrickson is also in the works, with a release date likely revealed at SDCC.

Ant-Man and Doctor Strange both play a part in Marvel’s current event Original Sin.

Winter Soldier was the titular antagonist of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and will be a player in the MCU for years to come as Sebastian Stan has a 9 picture movie deal with Marvel. In October a new comic book series Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier is coming as well, from writer Ales Kot and artist Marco Rudy.

Deathlok has recently entered the MCU via ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and a new Deathlok book from Nathan Edmondson and Mike Perkins is coming in October.

Angela, created by Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane and acquired by Marvel last year, has been revealed as Thor and Loki’s sister. She also has been featured in another hot property Guardians of the Galaxy.

Inhumans, like Medusa and Inferno, are said to be part of big plans that Marvel has. Not only in the books, but in the movies as well.

We expect to hear more about Avengers NOW at SDCC, which takes place next week, July 23rd-July 27th.
