Ever wanted a G.I Joe and Transformers crossover on the big screen?

Well it nearly happened according to D.J Caruso, the man behind the upcoming xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

The director, speaking to Collider, revealed that he was tasked by Paramount Pictures to come up with a third G.I Joe movie. In his script, the director tacked on an ending featuring our favourite Autobots. However, the studio weren’t impressed.

“That’s exactly what they [the studio] should do, but they’re not ready to do that, because in fact the script that I was developing, the two worlds sort of collided at the end and when they read it they were like, ‘We’re not ready to do this yet.’… They will eventually collide those two worlds and it’s probably when Mr. Bay decides he’s done with Transformers,” he said. However, all is not lost it seems.

“It came close, but I think what the studio was trying to do was reassess it and so now they’re back to the drawing board, and we’ll be talking again about it,” confirmed Caruso. “It’s a valuable franchise — [it’s] not that they didn’t get it right, they just wanna really get it right and see if they can push it to the next level.”

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
