According to Deadline, Jack Thorne (Skins) has been tapped to write the screenplay for Sandman from a David Goyer pitch. Thorne has already adapted some Gaiman, working on an upcoming screen version The Ocean at the End of the Lane for Joe Wright.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to produce the film with hopes that he’ll also star and direct as well. David Goyer is also aboard as a producer.
For anyone unfamiliar with the books premise, Sandman by award winning author Neil Gaiman follows Morpheus, one of the seven Endless who are beings as old as time itself and who each embody a different aspect of the universe, Morpheus being Dream. The book garnered immense critical and fan acclaim in its run and in 1991 became the first and only comic since to win a World Fantasy Award for best Short Fiction for issue #19 ‘A Midsummer’s Night Dream.’
