Les Miserables director to helm Freddie Mercury biopic?

March 15th, 2013 by Marc Comments

Deadline are reporting that Les Miserables director Tom Hooper is in line to direct the big screen biopic of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

Sacha Baron Cohen signed on the star as the rock icon back in 2010, however the film has been in kicking around in development for a while now. Frost/Nixon writer Peter Morgan is believed to have penned a script but has since left the project.

Producer Graham King, meanwhile, has hinted that Cohen may attempt to sing all those Queen songs however this will be easier said than done considering the soaring vocal talents of Mercury.

The Queen star died in 1991 of an AIDS related illness.
