LITE BITES: Snippets of news from the Nerd world: Dawn Of The Planets Of The Apes, Godzilla and Planes

March 28th, 2013 by Marc Comments

Here we are folks, some of the news we love but just couldn’t justify a full write-up for… but trust us, it’s all juicy stuff

First up, it looks like Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes has found a damn hot ape in the shape of Judy Greer. Yes, Vulture are reporting that Greer (below) will be the lead female chimpanzee. And the story goes that she’ll be Cornelia, who true Ape fans will remember was introduced in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes as Ceasar’s potential mate-to-be. Just what we need… another hot monkey after Helena Bonham Carter in Burton’s version. No? Just us then? Ok, moving on…

Next up, a treat for Godzilla fans as Legendary Pictures have tweeted the image below which features Godzilla reboot director Gareth Edwards with Akira Takarada, star of the original 1954 Godzilla movie. Though he also appeared in Godzilla, King of All Monsters, Mothra Vs. Godzilla, Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster and more. Aintitcool are suggesting Takarada ‘will be a cameo, probably along the lines of Stan Lee in any Marvel movie, but it’s good to know that Edwards is paying his respects to those that came before him. Good move, Team Legendary Godzilla!

In a fun bit of news, we’ve been talking about the Disney/Pixar Cars spin-off movie Planes recently and it looks like Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards, who played Ice Man and Goose in Top Gun will be voicing the fighter jets Bravo and Echo (below) in the new movie. They will join Dane Cook, John Cleese, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Stacy Keach, Cedric The Entertainer, Teri Hatcher and Sinbad, all on voicing duties. The movie is set to land in August in cinemas even though it was originally a direct-to-home release title.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
