A report has surfaced that George Miller will be filming a new Mad Max film later this year.

According to Australia’s Herald Sun (via Collider), the director will be working on a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road in and around Broken Hill. Fans of the franchise will know that Miller was due to film his Tom Hardy-led film at that same place but production was moved to Namibia because of heavy rain fall.

Pre-production is gearing up on the multi-million-dollar action-packed Warner Bros franchise, with NSW’s Broken Hill Studios Miller’s first choice for shooting, which could start as soon as later this year,” the report says.

The script is said to focus on the backstory of Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron.

No offical word has come from Warner Bros. or Miller regarding the rumour. More as we get it.
