Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov has said that Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel would be “setting the tone for what the movies are going to be like going forward” with regard to the DC universe.
Speaking to EW, Robinov said that the self-contained world of The Dark Knight trilogy would be left behind, and Man of Steel was “the first step” in opening up a DC movieverse.
“I think you’ll see that, going forward, anything can live in this world,” he said. “[Nolan’s] Batman was deliberately and smartly positioned as a stand-alone. The world they lived in was very isolated without any knowledge of any other superheroes. What Zack and Chris have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world.”
As regards possible appearances of DC characters in Man of Steel, screenwriter David Goyer has teased fans.
“I would love to tell you yes or no, but I think it’s going to be more exciting for people to keep a beady eye out and find what they can find,” he said.
Meanwhile, EW released some new images from the forthcoming superhero film of which you can see above and below.
Man of Steel opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX theaters June 14.
