Marc Webb returning to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 3

According to Variety, Marc Webb the director of the first 2 films in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, will return once again to helm the third film in the series, The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

Writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner are already returning to script the third film in the series which is currently set for release on June 10, 2016.

Andrew Garfield will return for the third film in the series, and even Paul Giamatti, who appears as Aleksei Sytsevich, aka The Rhino, in this summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, has said he’d be back for the next one. As for the rest of the cast it remains to be seen.

The trade also adds that Sony has big plans for Spider-Man.

SPE co-chairman Amy Pascal reveals that Sony is taking a page from Marvel Entertainment’s superhero movie playbook:

“We are expanding the Spider-Man universe into The Sinister Six and Venom, so that we have ‘Spider-Man’ movies every year.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to swing into theaters on April 18th, 2014 in the UK and on May 2nd in the US. While the third film is currently set for release on June 10, 2016 and a fourth film in the franchise to follow on May 4, 2018. Along with two spin-off films including Venom, to be written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Ed Solomon and directed by Kurtzman, and The Sinister Six, which will be written and directed by Drew Goddard.
