Marvel To Cancel Fantastic Four Comic Series

October 6th, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

It’s not rare for a comic to be cancelled, especially in this day and age where comic sales are EVERYTHING. Also, sometimes comics end to start new runs with new stories and writers. Such as the New 52, and the recent revamp of Thor.

However, as Bleeding Cool reports and confirms, there is an apparent personal reason for the cancellation of one of Marvel’s biggest names: Fantastic Four.

While sales for the title might not be earth shattering, they are selling more than books that will also be cancelled soon. Bleeding Cool sites that the unrest in Marvel over the rights to the Fantastic Four in the movies is the reason the book is getting cancelled.

That’s not all though, Marvel is apparently also pulling FF support in both sketch cards and toys as both Mondo and Diamond Toys confirmed.

This is clearly meant to send a message, but to what end?

As for the true proof that this book is getting cancelled, people need look no further than the solicitations for next year:

“THE END IS FOUREVER! Witness the closing act on the First Family of the Marvel Universe! THE INVADERS meet the FANTASTIC FOUR as the hunt for REED RICHARDS and the missing kids of the FUTURE FOUNDATION continues. Meanwhile the mastermind behind everything unveils his ultimate plan. But how does FRANKLIN RICHARDS factor in? And how does this all lead to…The END?! Collecting FANTASTIC FOUR #642-644 and the Triple Sized Final Issue 645!”

Things can obviously change, but the people at Marvel seem awfully driven to make sure that might not happen. The end indeed.
