Muppets co-creator dies

April 3rd, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

We sadly report that Jane Henson has died at the age of 78 after a battle with cancer. She and husband Jim created the Muppets.

Jane and Jim married and had five children and although she stepped back to raise the kids, she remained a key figure in the company and was the lady responsible for hiring Yoda voice actor Frank Oz. She also taught him to lip sync to the puppets for Sesame Street.

Although the marriage ended she and Jim remained good friends, creating the Jim Henson Legacy Foundation after his death in 1990 as well as the Jane Henson Foundation in 2001. She is survived by her children but the Henson legacy lives on.
