One of the Month – January 2013

January 9th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

One of the Month

The return of the short lived column One of the Month is back!  The gaming team here at FTN will bring you our picks for the upcoming game and movie releases each month in an attempt to guide you in the direction of the games and movies you should be playing/watching.

So far ahead, most of this column will be based on hype, preview material and personal experience and this shouldn’t replace reviews for the actual movies and games at a later date.  But it will be a forum for our readers and other members of the FTN team to sound off about what they’re excited about in the upcoming month.

One of the Month – Console Game

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge – (WiiU) – 11 Jan 2013

Ninja Gaiden 3 on the WiiU is an updated version of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.  It contains all the downloadable content from those versions as well as a couple of missions featuring Dead or Alive’s Ayane.  But most importantly for me, decapitation and dismemberment, which were oddly missing from the other console versions, are back.  This is the Ninja Gaiden game that Ninja Gaiden 3 should have been in the first place.

One of the Month – Portable Gaming

There are no planned Nintendo 3DS, PS Vita or mobile gaming releases planned for January that grab my attention.

One of the Month – Movies

Zero Dark Thirty – 25 Jan 2013

There are some epic looking movies this month and I was very torn between which to choose for my One of the Month.  Django Unchained and Movie 43 are strong contenders, but based on the fact that it is the same writer and director combination from the Hurt Locker and the awesome looking trailer, I’m going to have to go with Zero Dark Thirty.

For those that don’t know, Zero Dark Thirty chronicles the hunt for Osama Bin Laden over the decade from the attacks on the Twin Towers, to his eventual death in 2011.

One-of-the-Month FTN Writers Choices

Al Keenan’s One-of-the-Month

Gaming – DMC: Devil May Cry
It has been many years since half angel, half demon Dante has been off our screens and I have missed his ass kicking.  The demo had me salivating and I really can’t wait to play some of Dante’s early adventures.

Movies – Django Unchained
As a massive Tarantino fan I don’t see how he can go wrong. His latest seems to be a history changing take on the wild west. With a great cast and top notch writer and director I’m sure this film will have people talking for a long time.

Leigh’s One-of-the-Month

Movies- Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D
Something about the thrill of seeing a horror in 3D seems like a good way to get blood pumping and the heart racing. Just as long as I don’t get cut up about spending too much money on this (no pun intended). In this months’ movie releases this is my one to watch. As it is already famous around the world it seems there would only be improvement when adding 3D. It would give the effect of throwing you right into the apparently unbelievably gross masterpiece. I will definitely be seeing it.

What are you most excited about this month?  Are you down with Django Unchained or Movie 43?   Or are you going for the new Texas Chainsaw?  Maybe you’re excited about Arnie’s return to the big screen in his own film in the Last Stand.  Although gaming releases are light, there are still a few options out there.  DMC Devil May Cry is out and the awesome looking Ni No Kuni on the PS3.

Tell me your three picks of the month.
