Patrick Stewart has said he is likely to play Professor X one last time in James Mangold’s untitled Wolverine sequel.

The English actor was speaking to ITV in the UK and was asked if the film, which is likely to be Hugh Jackman’s final as Wolverine, would be his last one too.

I can’t say because I don’t know, but I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me,” he said. “But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over.”

When pressed with the fact that Xavier has actually died and returned in the series once already, he added: “Yes, I have, I have. Jean Grey vaporised me, from which you would think there would be no return.”

The as-of-yet untitled Wolverine film is currently filming ahead of its planned March 3, 2017 release date.
