Power Rangers Movie Will Not Be a Reboot, Will Respect Continuity

July 22nd, 2014 by Todd Black 1 Comment

When it was revealed that a Power Rangers movie, based off of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, was announced, one of the more important questions was about if the movie will be a reboot of the series, or some kind of continuation.

Executive Producer Robert Orci in an interview with IGN spoke on the matter, and his words may just give hope to fans.

“One of the first things we did was learn and read… [Saban] has 600 pages of research that they have on their stuff. We read through the synopsis of everything they did and we are actually taking into account quite a bit of the canon in a real way. We’re not just a leave it behind reboot.

[Haim] Saban cares very much about that. This is something that he created. I had to go to his house, personally, to tell him, ‘Listen, I’m your man. Miller and Stenz, these are your guys. I promise you I won’t ruin your franchise.’ And he said, ‘It’s very important to me, because kids around the world know what the Power Rangers are. So you can’t just come in here and walk all over it. It better be consistent with what I’ve been doing.’ And I said, ‘Yes sir!’…Its got a continuity within the world. I can’t tell you what, but it does have a continuity.”

Oh, and he said he would welcome cameos from the original Power Rangers, as they know the series better than anyone.

maybe HE will make an appearance!!!

It’s good to see passion from those who are going to try and make this a successful movie. Power Rangers is indeed near and dear to many a fan, myself included, I would hate for this to become a simple money grab, instead of epic Power Rangers adventure. We’ll continue to provide updates on this movie as they come about.

May the Power protect us all.
