April 2nd, 2013 by Marc Comments

Robert Redford has been confirmed for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

When asked specifically about his role, the Oscar-winning actor clarified: “Well, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. The head of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

He elaborated: “The Captain America thing is just a very simple thing I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, its bold in terms of expectations, I guess.”

Though he gave no more details about his character, many have theorised that Redford will play an older version of one of Captain America’s friends from the WW II era or that he will play the “original Nick Fury”.

Joe Russo’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier begins production shortly for an April 4, 2014 release.
