WATCH: Richard Donner says The Goonies 2 is happening

April 6th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

One of the most beloved movies of the 80’s is The Goonies. Produced by Steven Spielberg, written by Chris Columbus and directed Richard Donner, The Goonies was a adventure movie about a group of friends who undertook a dangerous quest to find a legendary pirate treasure and save their homes, starring a charismatic group of child and teenage stars, including Sean Astin, Cory Feldman, and Josh Brolin.

In this age of reboots, and remakes I suppose it was only a matter of time. It seems TMZ apparently received confirmation from director Richard Donner himself that The Goonies 2 is indeed getting  made, with hopefully the whole cast returning, according to the director.

Donner was signing autographs in Beverly Hills when a TMZ camera guy asked him about the current state of comic book movies in Hollywood. He replied he didn’t have a problem with it, and when asked if he ever planned to do another comic book movie, he replied:

“If you call Goonies a comic book. We’re doing a sequel.”

When asked about the stars returning Donner replied:

“Hopefully all of them.”

Is Donner serious? Who knows, I’d never would’ve have though The Crow and Point Break would be getting remakes so I’m pretty much past getting shocked at this point.
