RUMOR: Ant-Man’s villains revealed?

June 20th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

According to JoBlo, the main villain of Ant-Man will be Darren Cross. In the comics Cross is a foe of Scott Lang and head of Cross Technological Enterprises a competitor of Stark Industries and Oscorp. The site adds that instead of his pink Hulk-like stature in the comics, Cross will sport an outfit similar to the Lang’s, but more miltary style, yellow and black in color, and with a tendril-looking apparatus coming off it’s back (like with Agent Venom). There may well be some merging of attributes from other characters for this role or multiple villains at that (Yellowjacket, perhaps?).

Darren Cross also has a cousin, William Cross, who becomes the villain Crossfire in comics. A CIA trained agent with expert martial arts and weapons skills, in addition to a cybernetic eye.

According to TheWrap’s Jeff Sneider, Corey Stoll will play Darren Cross and Patrick Wilson is William Cross. It remains to be seen if William becomes Crossfire in the film.

Some other tidbits:

-Story begins with Scott Lang being a thief and single dad who has fallen on hard times and one day breaks into Hank Pym’s apartment and steals the Ant-Man suit.

-The Ant-Man suit will be much more elaborate than we’ve seen so far with the helmet being able to open and close much like Iron Man and an assortment of red lights all over the suit, again in “TRON” fashion. The helmet eyes will also glow red when closed. It’s said to be a much more complex and futuristic suit than we’ve seen so far.

-Ants (the actual insect) are the main ally and superpower for Ant-Man in the film. Lang will speak to the ants via his helmt, just as in the comics, which is said to be a special element to the overall story.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Ant-Man is set to be directed by Peyton Reed and the script rewritten by Adam McKay. The film stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, and Patrick Wilson.

Ant-Man is scheduled for release on July 17th, 2015.
