Rumor: Simon Pegg cast in Star Wars: Episode VII?

June 12th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

According to IGN, Simon Pegg (Star Trek) has been cast in Star Wars: Episode VII. Pegg was reportedly spotted filming his “secret role” on the Abu Dhabi set. We know the shooting in Abu Dhabi recently wrapped, and although photos did leak, the production remains highly secretive. As we learned only last week with the casting of Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie, maybe casting isn’t done or fully revealed yet.

This isn’t the first time Pegg has been rumored, though he quickly shot those down saying:

“No idea where this silly rumour about me attached to the new Star Wars film came from but I can confirm that it’s absolute Bantha poodoo.”

He also went so far as to tell The Independent that he shouldn’t be cast:

“I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to be in it, to be honest. I think J.J. should cast new faces with no stunt casting.”

He did tweet an image last month that got people talking again though.

Of course this could just be Simon Pegg being Simon Pegg, remember the photo he took at Marvel?

But maybe he changed his mind or maybe it was a ruse all along. There is a possibility that Pegg may have an unannounced cameo or role in the film that is unknown at this time.

Pegg is no stranger to the Star Wars universe, he played Dengar on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He’s also worked with J.J. Abrams on Mission Impossible III, Star Trek, and Star Trek into Darkness.
