Despite Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman being tied to Marvel movie franchises, the two are returning for a fourth series of Sherlock, which after the one-off special ‘The Abominable Bride‘ will be returning to the regular three episode format of 90 minutes each, the first of which began filming this week.

Today the BBC announced via their news website that Toby Jones (Jones played Dr Arnim Zola in the first two Captain America movies and recently starred in the first season of Wayward Pines), has been added as the villain of the second episode, commenting on the site that he is “excited and intrigued by the character I shall be playing in Sherlock…”.

Steven Moffat, creator and runner of the Sherlock show added more clues to Jones’ role, confirming that he will be playing a villain already established in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels, saying “Delighted to have Toby Jones on board, bringing to life one of Doyle’s finest villains.”

Co-creator Mark Gatiss, who also plays Sherlock’s brother Mycroft Holmes also commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome one of our finest actors to the Sherlock family. I know Toby will embrace the part with true relish!”

So what do you think Sherlock fans? Any suggestions as to who he might be playing? Let us know in the comments section below!
