It looks like Sir Ben Kingsley is heading back to the MCU as Trevor Slattery AKA the man who would be The Mandarin.
The actor will reprise the role he first played in Iron Man 3 (2013) before reprising in All Hail the King (2014) and Shang Chi (2022) for the upcoming Wonder Man series set for Disney+.
Wonder Man, left, in the comics is Simon Williams, the son of a wealthy businessman whose empire is threatened by Stark Industries; Williams is given super strength and speed – like Captain America – by Baron Zemo to help save his dad’s business but despite being a villain, he ultimately becomes a member of the Avengers.
It’s unknown at this point what way this will all play out in the new series but Slattery’s appearance could point to the link to Stark since he first appeared in Iron Man 3 although Variety points out: Slattery lends credence to reports that the show is intended to be a Hollywood satire, as it has been established that Slattery is a failed actor and Wonder Man has been an actor and a stuntman in the comics. Exactly how Kingsley would factor into the plot of the series and how many episodes he would appear in is being kept under wraps, but sources say he will play a major role.
Marvel’s TV output has been very lackluster but Kingley’s return does make us optimistic that a fun time lies ahead.
Thoughts? Let me hear ’em, folks.
